CERT's Commitment to Education
In founding CERT, the Tribal leadership recognized that trained and experienced Indian people were essential to the achievement of CERT's mission and goals. Because of the severe under-representation of Indian professionals in the engineering, science, computer, finance, business, and related fields, the Tribes felt that true self-determination would require that their Tribal members develop expertise in these fields. From the outset, the CERT Board of Directors made educating Indian people in these technical fields a top priority. CERT's Comprehensive Indian Education Program was established in 1979 to develop and promote programs for the education of American Indians in energy and management professions. Through the years, the centerpiece of the program has been college preparatory summer institutes’ for promising Indian students interested in pursuing studies in energy management fields.

PLEASE NOTE: The TRIBES Program is suspended for the Summer of 2008
The Tribal Leaders of the Council of Energy Resource Tribes have decided that students who would have been selected for the TRIBES Program will be eligible for the Scholarship Program. The selection process will be the same as the previous application process for admission to the TRIBES Program – now called the CERT Scholars Program.

CERT Scholarship Program (Application Form)
The CERT Scholarship Program was created to meet the unforeseen need of today’s American Indian college students. CERT Scholarships may be used for books, living expenses, clothing, or other similar needs to assist students in defraying the high costs of education. The award is a gift from the Council of Energy Resource Tribes and should not be counted toward any financial aid the student is currently receiving. A CERT Scholarship is not based on financial need.
